Modern, Stylish Gas Fireplaces Debut to
Hospitality Design Community at HD Boutique 2006
New York, NY— September 2006—Since SPARK Modern Fires launched earlier this year, it has redefined the gas fireplace industry. With its clean, modern aesthetic, SPARK has restored the gas fireplace—too long associated only with the traditional mantelpiece and decidedly un-chic “fake log”—as a choice for the modern designer. In every SPARK installation, the flame takes center stage: these products put the focus of the fireplace on the simple beauty of fire itself. Approved for use in a variety of settings in all 50 states, SPARK Modern Fires has already been well-received by the hospitality design community. This month, it will exhibit at HD Boutique, a leading hospitality design tradeshow, for the first time. HD Boutique is September 18-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center; SPARK Modern Fires will be at Booth #1690.
One of the great advantages of SPARK Modern Fires’ products to hotel designers—in addition to style, cost, and energy-efficiency—is their tremendous adaptability and customization. Unlike many fireplace products, SPARK’s are approved nationally for use in common areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Designers can tailor the look of the product to complement any décor, specifying surround materials ranging from copper and stone to ceramic and glass. This makes SPARK Modern Fires an appealing choice in a hospitality setting, where a designer may wish to incorporate fireplaces in a several service areas with distinct design statements (for example, a reception area and a luxury suite).
“The possibilities for our contemporary fireplaces are endless in the context of a boutique hotel,” said Tom Healy, company founder. “We’ve worked with designers interested in SPARK Modern Fires for lobbies and restaurants, spas and guestrooms. With our products, hotel designers—some of the most innovative in the industry—are rediscovering the design potential of the gas fireplace.”
Two New Products from SPARK
SPARK Modern Fires will show two 2006 releases at HD Boutique, the Fire Ribbon direct vent and the Fire Bowl. Both focus on the dynamic play of the flame itself, while offering different looks and installation options.
The Fire Ribbon direct vent is the only truly modern direct vent product on the market today. Inspired by the sleek appearance of home electronics, SPARK’s Fire Ribbons are set in a rectangular surround, which can be rendered in almost any material specified by the designer. Inside this elegant frame and behind a thin pane of glass, is an undulating horizontal “ribbon” of flame. The Fire Ribbon direct vent can be vented through a roof or a side wall.
SPARK has incorporated an extra feature into the Fire Ribbon just in time for HD Boutique. Allowing for even greater customization, the bottom of the fire box can become a tray to hold various materials, or “media,” that alter the appearance of the product even, in some cases, the hue of the flame. Media options include river stones, black lava rocks, white marble fragments, tempered glass and sea glass, and can be changed as frequently as desired; as such, the Fire Ribbon has become an architectural accessory that can be tailored to suit a seasonal theme, a particular mood or aesthetic.
The Fire Bowl is the answer for those who want to convert an existing wood-burning masonry fireplace or for those that have already converted and are burning fake logs. The centerpiece, a generous 18” bowl, is cast from a ceramic-like material and is available in three neutral colors: linen white, bronze, and charcoal. The bowl is installed in the fireplace on a base so that the flames can be seen dancing above the rim. As with all SPARK products, the fire bowl can be fueled with propane or natural gas and the flame is ignited by remote control.
In addition to these new releases, SPARK also offers the Fire Ribbon vent free. The company’s first product, it resembles the Fire Ribbon direct vent except that it requires no venting and no glass in front of it: there is nothing between the viewer and the ribbon of fire.
