Tom Healy was working in finance before an affinity for home design prompted a career change. What began as light renovation and casual speculation in Washington, DC real estate became a passion and an expertise: today, Healy is a prominent general contractor. Known for the highest quality construction and meticulous renovation, Healy works on spec projects, restaurants, custom homes, and full-house renovations and additions.

Working with architects and designers every day, Healy had a strong sense for what the design community required – and also where the market fell short. Fireplaces were consistently an issue in the projects he built; more often then not, the more modern projects would forego the fireplace altogether because of the lack of an aesthetically appropriate alternative. With this realization, SPARK Modern Fires was born.

“It became clear that there was a real need in the industry, and that if we wanted a modern fireplace we would have to design one. So we did,” said Healy. SPARK’s first products were introduced just over a year ago after more than three years in development. The company is constantly innovating and plans to launch new models each year. SPARK Modern Fires is located in Redding Connecticut.

Healy holds a Bachelor Degree in Finance from the University of Connecticut. He lives with his wife and three sons in a house he built (and is still building) for them.
